Performance Evaluation of ADV with AODV for Real-time and Multimedia Applications in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs)

dc.description.abstract It is expected that wireless communication and access technologies will continue to evolve at a rapid speed. Different wireless networks such as IEEE 802.11, 3G/4G, WiMAX, multimedia networks and sensor networks, will integrate into the next-generation vehicular networks. This will result in several diverse real-time applications. Given the high mobility of vehicles, there are many outstanding issues to be resolved before real-time applications based on multimedia over VANETs become a reality. In multi-hop communications the vehicles are consistently in motion and real-time multimedia applications require more bandwidth; a number of factors need to be considered during communication e.g. Throughput, packet loss, time-to-live, delay and jitter etc. Therefore, selection of routing protocol is important in these real-time applications over VANETs. In this paper, a comparison of ADV with AODV routing protocols for real-time applications is presented. Simulation results show that ADV outperforms AODV in audio and video data communication. en_US
