Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to investigate the effect of co-education on the self-esteem of Jordan University and Princess Alia University students, also to know the specific relationship between self-esteem of female students enrolled in co-educational institution and educational institution regarding the cumulative point average and level of education. Al-Qsuse Self-Esteem Test was applied on the study groups after it had been tested for psychometric properties. This study consisted of (139) students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Jordan, and (139) students from Alia University College at Al-Balga Applied University. The results revealed that there were significant differences between the education and the co-education female students regarding the self-esteem which was attributed to their high accumulative average (excellent and very good). There were no significant differences between the self-esteem of the educational and co-educational in this study. Furthermore, no significant differences of the self-esteem on the basis of their level of education were found between the education and the co-education female students. Based on the results, it was recommended that more attention should be given to the personality aspects, and more specifically to self-esteem due to its positive correlation with the academic achievement.
