Abstract:
This study aimed at investigating the art design competencies for senior students of the Educational Technology Dept, College of Education, Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST), in the academic year (2003- 2004). It also aimed at exploring the availability range of the current syllabuses competencies. Besides, it attempted to find out whether there were differences between male and female students of these competencies. The study also probed the students’ attitudes towards adding an art design course to the current BA program. The sample of the study consisted of (140) students selected randomly. The results revealed that the sample’s competencies levels varied between (low) and (very low). The results also pointed to the decline of these competencies from the desired level (between 60-69%), which might negatively reflect upon the students competencies and capabilities in the field of learning material design. The study showed that there were some differences between male and female students. However, these differences were not statistically significant. Accordingly, the researcher recommended adding the art design course to the BA program of Educational Technology at AUST.
