This study tries to cover the environmental literacy of teachers of science in the intermediate stage in the State of Kuwait. The study has divided the concept of environmental literacy into various dimensions such as environmental system, relationships among the creatures, atmosphere, natural resources, environmental pollution, environmental depletion, desertification, ozone hole, population, and environmental protection. The study has made a measurement for environmental literacy which consists of sixty items including the afore-mentioned ones. The study, in the end, reached many results, the most important of which is the low general standard of environmental literacy of the teachers of science. No differences related to the educational zone were shown. The study showed that the experience factor in teaching science has an effect in developing the standard of environmental literacy to the teachers. The results also concluded that there are no differences among the educationally or non- educationally qualified teachers in developing the standard of environmental literacy. The results referred to the factors through which the general environmental literacy of the teachers of science can be predicted (sex, experience years). |
