Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to identify gender differences in the Third Edition of the Bahraini translation and adaptation of Wechler Intelligence Scale for Children according to the principles set by the international Test Commission. The scale was administered to a group of 1018 of children both males (46%) and females (54%). The study showed that females obtained higher scores in verbal intelligence and full scale while males obtained higher scores in performance intelligence. Females obtained higher scores in Similarities, Digit Span and Coding while males in Mazes, Block Design and Arithmetic. In comparison with western and regional studies there were both agreement and disagreement. Finally, several questions were raised regarding causes of gender differences in the State of Bahrain.
