The Interwoven Sections of Narrative Structures in Ibn Zeidoun's Humorous Treatise Feryal

Abstract

This study tries to emphasize the importance of the two epistles in what they offer in regards to the dimensions of criticism in the concept of poetry, the importance of the text, the inspiration of poetry, the mastery of description, literary plagiarism, and the critique of prose texts. The study consists of two parts and a conclusion. The first part deals with the similarities between the two epistles, and it discusses three hypotheses, the first is that Ibn Shahid was influenced by Al-Ma’ri, the second is that Al-Ma’ri was influenced by Ibn Shahid, and the third is that neither one of them influenced the other. The study sides with the second hypothesis. The second part of the study focused on analytically studying the similarities between the two epistles. These similarities can be observed in the introduction of the two epistles, the protagonist, the general depiction of the characters, and the common scenes. As for the conclusion it focused on linguistically analyzing the two epistles and the role of the students, so as to expose the similarities between them. The study reached the conclusion that there are no major differences between the two epistles.
