dc.description.abstract This study aimed at identifying the effect of social e-communication on the need for cognition of Yarmouk University Students. One scale, developed by Cacioppo et al )1996( and was used by Jaradat and Al-Ali )2010(. was employed to measure the need for cognition. The sample of the study consisted of )420( first year university students registered for the first semester of the academic year 2011-2012 in the scientific and the humanities faculties at Yarmouk University. The results show that there are four levels of e-communication, which are: none, low, average, and high. The results also show statisticallysignificant differences in the level of the need for cognition due to the level of e-communication, students' sex, and major. The differences were in favor of high e-communicators, male students and scientific majors en_US
