dc.description.abstract | Scientists have stomped on the idea of dreaming big by thinking small and developing Nanoscience, popularly called Nanotechnology (NT). NT can combine hands with other famous paradigm called the Internet of Things (IoT) and become the next big thing, revolutionizing the world. This paper analyses the applications of NT in various fields and examines its intersection with IoT. It further reveals why it is time that the focus of researchers should shift towards the Internet of Nano Things (IoNT) and unfolds the challenges associated with the complete realization of IoNT. In this paper, we focus on the routing challenge of IoNT networks and propose a lightweight and generic routing protocol for them. Designing a routing protocol for IoNT networks where the sensors display energy, processing capability and communication range constraints is a much essential and challenging task. The protocol proposed in this paper called “Simple, Lightweight and Generic (SLG)” caters for energy-efficient, high throughput, high reliability, and less delay applications of IoNT. We consider the energy value of each node at every stage of the routing process to ensure that they do not lose all of their energy in this process. The protocol also ensures that the highest priority packets reach their destination following a minimum delay. The critical, mathematical and the experimental analysis of SLG confirm its effectiveness in the IoNT environment. | en_US |
