Abstract:
The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Bibliocounselling
program in improving the quality of life among university students
with sickle cell anemia in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The researchers applied
the quasi-experimental method design of single group. The study sample
consisted of 15 male and female students who are sickle cell anemia patients
at the University of Bahrain. The sample attended the Biblio-Counselling
program that was specifically designed to achieve the objective of the study.
The program consisted of 8 sessions, twice weekly with each session lasting
45-60 minutes. The researcher used the Mansi & Kazem 2006 )edited by the
researchers( Quality of Life Scale. A pilot study was conducted to ensure
the scale’s validity and reliability. The researchers applied the counselling
program )designed by the researchers( on the experimental single group. At the
end of the program, the results were processed statistically using the statistical
packet program )SPSS(; the non- parametric test )Wilcoxon( test. The results
of the study showed significant statistical differences in the quality-of-life
levels between the pre-measurement and post-measurement tests at α≤ 0.05
in the experimental sample group, in favor of the post-measurement test and
highlighting the effectiveness of the Biblio-Counseling program used in this
study. However, the study did not identify statistically significant differences
in the quality of life at the level of indication )α≤ 0.05) in the experimental
sample between the post-study and follow-up tests, indicating the sustainable
effectiveness of the Biblio-Counseling program.
