The Required Performance Competencies for Educational Supervisors as Viewed by School Principals and Their Assistants in Suwaiq Governorate (Willayat), North Batina Region, Oman

Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the required performance competencies of educational supervisors as viewed by school principals and their assistants in Suwaiq governorate (Willayat) in North Batina Region in the Sultanate of Oman. It also aims to explore the effects of gender, experience years, career and the educational stage. The researcher constructed a questionnaire consisted of forty items covering five areas. After proving the reliability and validity of the study tool, it was applied to the study sample which included 76 school principals and their assistants (for both sexes). Data were collected and analyzed using the Mean, Standard Deviations, and the T-Test for one group and two independent groups, and the Relative Importance (Rank) and One Way Analysis of Variants (ANOVA). The results have shown that educational supervisors have the performance skill competencies and the necessary administrative and technical abilities which enable them to perform their educational tasks. The results have also pointed out to the importance of the five areas at the significance level of 0.05%. Some items have got the highest mean and some others have got the lowest mean regarding the importance of the availability and intensity of performance competencies with educational supervisors. As for the effect of study variables, the results have shown no differences in the availability of the required performance competencies attributed to gender, experience years, career and educational stage. In the light of these results, some recommendations have been made urging educational institutions to intensify their efforts to hold seminars and regular meetings between parties concerned to develop joint work on the bases of modern supervision.
