The Arabic Comparative Study Realism and Optimism

Abstract

This paper discusses the factor of the Arabic Comparative Study through some issues and problems connected with the study of Arabic Comparative Literature like, its concept, methods, directions and other relevant issues which concern the researcher in the Comparative Literature. Although most of these issues were resolved by prominent American and European comparative literature scholars long time ago, some of them are still under discussion among Arab scholars. Other problems hinder the progress and development of Arabic comparative literature and prevent it from achieving its aim and improvement. No doubt, the main reason of the differences in viewpoints is due to the variety of the comparative methods, which Arab scholars have studied at the hands of their advocates in the West. There is an important factor to enrich the Arabic Literature in particular, and the Arabic Culture in general. The fearing point in this context is to reach an extent of intolerance and not respecting others’ opinions. The purpose of this paper is to reach a clear Arabic vision and a comprehensive academic method in studying Arabic comparative literature. For this reason: 1. the situation and the problems facing the Arabic comparative studies have been discussed, 2. The situation of translation and publication in the Arabic comparative literature have been discussed too. A wide bibliography on the comparative literature in the Arab World which contained publications and researches has been prepared. This paper ends with a conclusion which includes the most important methods that Arab researchers must follow to improve and enrich the horizons of Arabic Comparative Literature.
