dc.description.abstract |
The study aimed at identifying the nutrition information included in text books adopted by Qatar state at the upper elementary grades ( fourth, fifth, and sixth grades). It also aimed at determining information and problems that have some relation with Qatar environment. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis has been performed on the target textbooks of all subjects taught at these grades. Validity and reliability of analysis was assured. The major results of this study were as follows: !Most of the nutrition information in the text books appeared in low percentage both in quantity and quality especially at the fifth grade (%8, 7) because most of the nutrition information was not used in the main or subtitles. !Some of the nutrition information in the list appeared as part of a paragraph, or in pictures rather than as main subjects and it also without introducing deeper discussion. !Science text books ranked top compared with other texts in presentation of nutrition information with percentage of (%56, 3), sixth grade science texts also ranked high with a percentage of 50%. !Upper elementary Schools Text books lack nutrition information, and did not take into consideration nutrition problems of the environment. The study presented some suggestions and recommendations. |
