Designing A Computer- Based Teaching Package and Studying its Effect on the Achievement of Secondary Stage Students in Physics

Abstract

The major aim of this study was to investigate the effects of teaching method (Computer-Based Teaching Packages, Traditional Classroom Lecture) on the achievement of secondary stage students in physics, and determines their attitudes toward Computer- Based Teaching Packages. A random sample of (78) male and female students from secondary were divided into four groups and assigned to two separate teaching methods; There is a control group has (20) male and (19) female students, and there is an experimental group has (20) male and (19) female students. The experimental group was taught by using the computer based teaching packages, while the control group was taught by the traditional classroom lecture. The results of ANCOVA showed statistically significant differences on the achievement of secondary stage students due to the teaching method, in favor of the Computer- Based Teaching Packages. The results also showed that there were significant differences on the achievement of secondary stage students due to the sex variable in favor of the females. However, the study didn’t show any statistically significant differences on the achievement of secondary stage students due to the interaction between the method and sex variables. The study also showed that the attitudes of the male and female students were generally positive. While the study didn’t show any statistically significant differences on the students’ attitudes to the experimental group toward the computerized teaching packages due to the students’ sex.
