The Relationship between Athletic Identity and Self-Esteem among Physical Education Students in Palestinian Universities

dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between athletic identity and self-esteem among physical education students in Palestinian Universities. The study sample consisted of (305) male and female students. To collect data, athletic identity, and self-esteem scales were applied. The results of the study indicated that the levels of both athletic identity and self-esteem were high, where the percentage of response for the total score was respectively: (76.29% and 78.25%), and the results of Pearson correlation between athletic identity and self-esteem were positive (0.74). The results also indicated that there were no significant differences in students’ athletic identity due to university, academic level, and academic achievement variables. While the results revealed significant differences in students’ athletic identity between male and female in favor of male students. Furthermore, the results indicated that there were no significant differences in students’ self-esteem due to gender, university, and academic achievement variables. While the results revealed a significant difference in students athletic identity according to the academic level in favor of the fourth year. en_US
