Abstract:
This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using semantic map strategy in developing reading comprehension skills of chemistry texts and chemistry concepts acquisition among third intermediate female pupils in Riyadh. In order to achieve the aims of the study, a list of reading comprehension skills of chemistry texts, a test of reading comprehension skills of chemistry texts and a test of chemistry concepts acquisition were prepared. The researcher used the experimental method. The sample of the study consisted of (60) female pupils. They were divided into an experimental group including (30) female pupils who were taught by using significance map strategy, and a control group including (30) female pupils who were taught by using the normal method. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data of the study. The results of the study resulted in: 1. The construction of a list of reading comprehension skills that are necessary for learning the content of chemistry in the science syllabus among the third intermediate female pupils. 2. The effectiveness of using significance map strategy in developing reading comprehension skills of chemistry texts. 3. The effectiveness of using significance map strategy in chemistry concepts acquisition (of the targeted unit).
