dc.description.abstract The research aimed at recognizing the effect of learning based on functional approach dimensions in teaching social studies on developing crisis-management skills and awareness of total national security of social studies branch students in both the Faculties of Education in Assuit and New Valley. The research attempted to answer the questions through using the following: The quantative approach in designing the theoretical framework and instruments of the research, and in analyzing and interpreting the results, as well as providing recommendations and suggestions. Besides, the experimental approach in the research field-study was used. The research instruments were administered to students of the Faculties of Education in both Assuit and New Valley. The results emphasized the existence of a statistically significant difference at the level of 0.01 between the mean scores of students in each of the pretest and post- tests of crisis-management skill and scale of awareness of total national security, in favor of the post adminastration. This confirmed the positive effect of learning based on functional approach dimensions in teaching social studies on developing crisis-management skill and awareness of total national security of social studies branch students in both the Faculties of Education in Assuit and New Valley. The research results were treated using Eta-square that had a "high effect", which emphasized the research results. The researcher recommends the necessity of including crisis management skills in social studies syllabi through representing real problems of Egyptian society, in addition to including dimensions of total national security in the topics encountered by students in educational institutions for teacher preparation. en_US
