Abstract:
The study aimed to find the degree of including critical thinking skills in the Jordanian sixth basic grade textbook, "Our Arabic Language" (Lugatona Al-Arabiya). The study sample consisted of the Jordanian sixth basic grade textbook, "Our Arabic Language" (Lugatona Al-Arabiya). The content of the book was analyzed to find critical thinking skills included in the book. Their frequency and percentage were calculated. The results showed that the book included 19 subskills of critical thinking; they occurred 333 times. They included skills of identifying the assumptions, prediction, interpretation, conclusion, analysis, and evaluation skills. The results also showed that the conclusion skill obtained the highest frequency (occurrence 191; 57.35 %) of the total skills. It was followed by the skill of interpretation (occurrence 82; 24.62%) of the total skills. The third largest frequency was for the evaluation skill (occurrence 24; 7.20 %) of the total skills. The skill of identifying the assumptions received the fourth highest frequency (occurrence 23; 6.90%). The skill of analysis had the lowest frequency (occurrence 13; 3.90%). In light of the results, a number of relevant recommendations were presented.
