Abstract:
The current study aimed to identify the correlation between the quality of
the performance appraisal system for faculty members and the strategies used
to achieve competitive advantage in Saudi universities. To achieve this aim,
researcher used the descriptive approach and constructed a questionnaire as
the main tool to collect the necessary data for the study. The study included
160 faculty members from the following universities: (King Faisal, King
Saud and King Abdulaziz) in Saudi Arabia. The study results revealed some
findings, the most important of which are that the members of the study
sample are neutral in their opinions about the performance appraisal system in
Saudi universities. The average approvals on the strategies adopted by these
universities to achieve competitive advantage in educational services also
revealed a difference in their views towards these strategies. The study also
showed a statistically significant positive relationship between the variables
of the study; the system of evaluating the performance of the faculty member,
and the advantage of the development of education, which indicates the impact
of the quality of the system of evaluating the performance of faculty members
on the strategies that the university aspires to achieve competitive advantage.
