Abstract:
The study aims to identify symptoms of both sleep and anxiety disorders,
and the correlation between their levels among firefighters in the State
of Kuwait. The research group consisted of (266) firefighters from Fire
Departments across the various provinces of the State of Kuwait, Both the
Scale of Insomnia by Ahmed Abdel-Khalek and the anxiety scale )Leahy,
2015) were administered. The findings revealed that the rate of sleep disorders
among firefighters was at an average level, and that the most cited items were:
"I wake up feeling tired", "I wake up early in the morning before I get enough
sleep", and "Sleep disorder causes great distress for me," Firefighters were
also found to have a low anxiety level, Findings indicated a positive and
statistically significant connection between sleep and anxiety disorders, and
statistically significant differences in both sleep and anxiety disorders as per
the age variable in favor of the older age group. They also showed statistically
significant differences in both sleep and anxiety disorders as per the variable of
years of service in favor of those with the highest number of years of service.
